• Simple ingredients you can find at any market
• Detailed steps make it beginner-friendly
• Easily feeds a crowd or provides tasty leftovers
• Bakes all in one dish for easy cleanup

Ingredients (US / Metric)

• 9 lasagna noodles / 9 sheets (no-boil or regular)
• 1 lb ground beef / 450 g
• 1 tbsp olive oil / 15 ml
• 1 medium onion, chopped (~1 cup) / 150 g
• 2 garlic cloves, minced
• 24 oz marinara sauce / 680 g
• 15 oz ricotta cheese / 425 g
• 1 egg
• 2 cups shredded mozzarella / 200 g
• ½ cup grated Parmesan / 50 g
• 2 tsp dried oregano / 2 g
• 1 tsp dried basil / 1 g
• Salt and pepper to taste

How to make it

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch (23×33 cm) baking dish.
2. Cook noodles according to package if not using no-boil. Drain and set aside.
3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and cook 3–4 minutes until soft.
4. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds, then stir in ground beef. Season with salt, pepper, oregano, and basil. Cook until beef is no longer pink, about 6–8 minutes.
5. Pour in marinara sauce, stir well, and simmer 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
6. In a bowl, mix ricotta, egg, half the Parmesan, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
7. Spread ½ cup sauce on the bottom of the baking dish. Layer 3 noodles on top. Spread ⅓ of the ricotta mixture, ⅓ of the meat sauce, and sprinkle ⅓ of the mozzarella.
8. Repeat layers two more times, ending with sauce and remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.
9. Cover with foil and bake 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake 20 more minutes until cheese is golden and bubbly.
10. Let rest 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Tips and common mistakes

— If using regular noodles, undercook by 1–2 minutes; they’ll finish baking in the oven.
— Don’t skip the resting time—slices hold shape better.
— Spread sauce evenly to avoid dry edges.
— Use fresh Parmesan for best flavor.

Substitutions

• Ground turkey or chicken instead of beef
• Cottage cheese for ricotta (same weight)
• Spinach or kale added to ricotta mix
• Gluten-free or whole-wheat lasagna sheets

Storage instructions

Refrigerate leftover lasagna in an airtight container for up to 3 days. To freeze, wrap the cooled pan in foil and store up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge, then reheat at 350°F (175°C) for 20–25 minutes.

FAQ

Q: Can I assemble ahead and bake later?
A: Yes. Layer everything, cover, and refrigerate up to 24 hours. Bake as directed, adding a few extra minutes if dish is cold.

Q: How do I reheat single servings?
A: Microwave slices on medium power for 2–3 minutes or bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10–15 minutes.

Q: Can I use no-boil lasagna noodles?
A: Absolutely. No-boil sheets work well—just be sure you have enough sauce to cook them through.

Q: How can I make it lower in calories?
A: Use part-skim cheeses and lean ground beef or swap for ground turkey.
